Last friday Eduardo Rubio opened an individual exhibit in Madrid. The Mexico Madrid Center will be the venue that will harbor pieces that run through his poetics and forms, swaying between illustrations and paintings; though to him drawing is much closer in terms of the current discourse of contemporary expressions.
Rubio (México DF, 1971) tries his hand at painting, drawing and installation, with a marked interest in the use of the exhibition space as a means and a basic part of his work. With an eclectic formation in the arts, Rubio has visited studios and workshops run by a variety of artists, such as Alfredo Zalce in Mexico, or Antonio Lopez and Manuel Alcorlo in Spain. He worked at the Gaetano Pesce Workshop in Mexico, coming up with design pieces made of plastic resins, and at the Experimental Graphic Workshop in Havana, Cuba (2007). He studied Japanese engraving and etching techniques with Alicia Candiani (Argentina).
He has won several recognitions, such as the Young Creators Scholarship in Mexico and an Honorary Mention in the Omnilife Grand Prize contest (Guadalajara, Jalisco, 2001).
