14th SRA from the Caribbean: Rallying Project

The 14th Regional Show of Artists from the Colombian Caribbean, traveling through several cities, closes doors in Valledupar, Cesar, on October 5.

This project was presented by Atarraya curatorial team, made up of four curators: Javier Mejia (director), Edwin Jimeno, Jaider Orsini and Stefannia Doria, who carried out a research in 2011, including travels, interviews and visits to workshops, and the result led to the pre-selection of 150 contemporary artists from the region. The curators were supported by the Ministry of Culture, Arteria Foundation and Divulgar Foundation – Network of Artists from the Caribbean.

Afterwards, less than twenty creators were definitively handpicked, including Eduardo Butron (Bolivar), Viviana Covelli (Magdalena), Rafael Gomez Barros (Magdalena) and Jose Luis Quesseps (Sucre), as well as collectives Aguafuerte (Cordoba) and En construccion (Atlantic).

The proposal of Atarraya curatorial team also involved its pedagogical dimension, which can be noticed during the continuous meetings among artists, specialists and students, professors, institutions, rural and urban communities; moments that were conceived to promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences, through the interpretation of works and/or curatorship.

In this sense, and despite the end of the exhibition on October 5, the Show’s vast educational agenda will continue through the last day of this month. With all these initiatives, the Network of Artists from the Caribbean keeps on generating processes to boost the sustenance, development and integrity of the region’s artistic and cultural platform.
