Sobre arte y otras banalidades (On Art and other Banalities)

Mexico’s Institute in Spain inaugurated on Thursday December 20 its last exhibition of 2012. Sobre arte y otras banalidades presents the work of creation collective DiamonsLand, which is made up of Mexican photographers Paolo Tagliolini and Rene Escalante.

The artists deal, through the digital manipulation of images, with the circumstances that surround and mark contemporary art. They incisively criticize the stablishment, the positions to be taken by artists, collectors, art critics, gallery owners and viewers. Likewise, they tackle politic aggression, intolerable consumption and marketing from a cynical perspective.

“We explore a variety of languages, direct photography, photomontage, collage, illustration, video, but the vision is what really matters” –they have said. “We try to position ourselves from a critic point of view that questions what has been established with certain sense of humor. We specifically speak about the world of art because we’re directly interested in it, but we can’t ignore the social injustices we’re living, so we’ll have pieces with critic and up-to-date elements.”

The exhibition will be open through January 20, 2013.
