A Piece of Korea in Madrid

An exhibition that merges traditional techniques with contemporary sensitivity will be showcased through Friday Feb. 22 at the Korean Cultural Center in Madrid (Paseo de la Castellana, 15).

Dos y Naturaleza includes over sixty-seven works on fabric, installations, sketches and other pieces created by Korean painters Kim Ji Eun and Cho Miyung. Through canvas called "Sambae", with traditional techniques and natural dyeing, they interpret and transform Korean traditional painting into contemporary painting, with nature playing the leading role. Their works represent a way to explain the conceptual link between yesterday and today, the harmony between the Eastern and the Western. Nature plays an essential role in their creations.

Kim Ji Eun was born in Seoul and got her degree at Hongik University in Fine Arts. She has carried out four solo shows in Seoul and Busan and her work has been included in several collective showcases. She presently works as a professor at Busan’s Institute of Science and Technology, in the Fashion and Production Design Department.

Cho Mi Young graduated in the same University and has held twelve solo shows between 1999 and 2011. She also works on fabric embroideries.
