Theory on Contemporary Art

Estar los unos con los otros is the main topic for the 2013 edition of 11th International Symposium Theory on Contemporary Art (SITAC), to be held in Mexico DF on Sep. 5 - 7.

Inspired by the thoughts of French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy, the event proposes new strategies this year. The consultant committee was renovated, a contest has been called to choose the curator to be working with the event, and the date was postponed in order to have more time to structure the meeting and provide a more-flexible format to promote an open debate. The direction will be on the hands of Paola Santoscoy, director of El Eco Experimental Museum, and Brazilian Marcio Harum, director of Sao Paulo’s Cultural Center. The new consultant committee is made up of Pablo Helguera, Sol Henaro, Alejandro Hernandez, Benjamin Mayer, Mariana Munguia and Sofia Olascoaga, who will start working in May.

In spite of having one of Nancy’s phrases as starting point, SITAC doesn’t try to illustrate his thinking system, but to suggest different topics that come out of that anxiety of being “one another” in different latitudes, in different times. That’s reason enough to have guests this year from spaces that are not so common to the Latin American context, such as Europe and the Middle East; and foster certain topics through new mass media, thus exploring the digital platform.
