Norman Foster Debuts with “Moving. Norman Foster on Art”

2013 marks the twentieth anniversary of Carré d'Art-Musée d'art contemporain, Nîmes (France), a work of British architect Norman Foster. In order to commemorate this event, Norman Foster has been invited to curate Moving. Norman Foster on Art show, to be open to viewers on May 2, 2013. This is the first contemporary art exhibition to be curated by Foster.

The show is going to include works created by such artists as Alberto Giacometti o Alexander Calder, but also contemporary authors, whose work has been barely showcased in France. Therefore, it’s going to be an opportunity to shed light on the contemporary Spanish art at international level. Jean-Marc Prevost, director of the museum, underlined that in this exhibition Norman Foster reflects "a clear approach to the most acclaimed figures of modern art and emerging artists, as well as those from the design sphere."

In an effort to establish a dialogue with the building, the works are not only going to be exhibited in the usual halls, but in other spaces such as the main entrance and the staircase. "The sculptural and audiovisual works will be dialoguing with the whole architecture”. Furthermore, several works have been especially conceived for this event, just like American artist Bill Fontana’s sonorous installation.

Likewise, Brazilian artist Nuno Ramos’ monumental sculpture and Danish artist Olafur Eliasson’s piece have been created for this exhibition, as well as Argentinean artist Tomas Saraceno’s works.

Along with the works selected by Norman Foster, viewers will also have the opportunity to admire pieces that make up Carré d'Art’s collection such as “Winterreise”, by Spanish artist Juan Muñoz, as well as several pieces that stand for Gerhard Richter’s career.
