NEINVER Opens Art Contest to Provide its Madrid Centers with a Sculpture

The NEINVER Group, the leading outlet operator in Spain, is carrying out a contest for artists from or living in Madrid in a bid to provide its center in San Sebastián de los Reyes, Las Rozas and Getafe with a sculpture that will comprise the three spaces, intervening each of them with different artworks that are linked to one another. This initiative is part of the NEINVER philosophy to support and endorse the realm of the arts, culture and local artists by the hand of its centers. The jury –its members have already handpicked 15 local artists- is made up of Carlota Álvarez Basso (contemporary culture programming director with Matadero Madrid), Jose Guirao (director of the Caja Madrid Special Foundation and of Casa Encendida), Lorena Martínez de Corral (art critic, freelance curator, current Fine Arts consultant with the Madrid Community), Tania Pardo (freelance art curator), Laura Revuelta (editor-in-chief of the ABC newspaper culture supplement) and Elena Vozmediano (art critic), as well as by representatives from the NEINVER Group and Urroz Proyectos. The objective behind this contest is to give the winning entry the chance of being mounted at the main entrances of the three outlet centers NEINVER runs in Madrid. With that view in mind, Madrid-born and Madrid-resident artists have been invited. They are Julio Adán, Cristina Almodóvar, Antonio Ballester Moreno, Jacobo Castellano, Jaime de la Jara, Hisae Ikenaga, Almudena Lobera, Esther Mañas, Boa Mistura, Clara Montoya, Nuria Mora, Guillermo Mora, Pablo Serret, Pablo Valbuena and Juan Zamora. The jury’s decision –the NEINVER Group will have a say in it too- will be revealed from July 26 onward. The winning entry will grab 14,000 euros for the top prize. This is the third such contest planned by NEINVER among local artists to provide one of its centers with a meaningful artwork. Prior to this contest, the group has organized The Style Outlets contests in La Coruña and Seville. Rubén Ramos Balsa (with his 20 Pop Corns 5x4 work) and Rodrigo Martín Freire (with his Windows Cut) were the artists selected to carry through their projects back in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
