Contemporary Art, Social Images of the Body

The Andalusian Center of Contemporary Art (CAAC), based in the Monastery of San Maria de las Cuevas, has been exhibiting (May 17 – December 1) Arte de comportamiento e imagenes sociales del cuerpo (Behavior art and social images of the body), thus closing ‘Acción Rodeo y periferias conceptuales’ exhibition section.

The show puts together nearly 200 works created by 44 national and international artists. The display goes into the action art with different proposals, behavior art or body art, which is one of CAAC’s main development and research guidelines.

 

Behavior art finds its premises in action art, and analyzes ways of individual and social relations, while body art was born as the evolution of the previous one and includes several artistic expressions related to the body.

 

As a temporary exhibition of the permanent collection, this show gathers artworks created in different moments of history, by artists from different generations, including such historic representatives of these trends as Valie Export, Marta Minujin, Bruce Nauman or Rudolf Schwarzkogler, all the way to younger artists that make reference to behavior art or the body as a space of social research.

 

The artists included in the show are: Rafael Agredano, Angeles Agrela, Ana Laura Alaez, Alfonso Albacete,  Pilar Albarracin, Jose Luis Alexanco, Francis Bacon, Txomin Badiola, Johanna Billing, Juan Sebastian Bollain, Louise Bourgeois , Günter Brus , Nacho Criado, Pepe Espaliu, VALIE EXPORT , Flo6x8, Mar Garcia Ranedo, Victoria Gil, Nan Goldin, Dionisio Gonzalez, Juan Hidalgo, Jürgen Klauke, Cristina Lucas, Ana Mendieta, Marta Minujin, Aleksandra Mir, Daido Moriyama, Otto Muehl, Bruce Nauman, Nazario, Hermann Nitsch, Marta Maria Perez , Carlos Perez Siquier, Guillermo Perez Villalta, Julio Romero de Torres, Lotty Rosenfeld, Martha Rosler, Inmaculada Salinas, Rudolf Schwarzkogler, Andres Serrano, Ann-Sofi Siden, Miguel Trillo, Dario Villalba, Carrie Mae Weems.
