Sebastian Mahaluf, Bruno Giliberto in Metropoli, Gabriela Mistral Gallery

Body, space and city establish a relation in the installations presented by Sebastian Mahaluf and Bruno Giliberto at Gabriela Mistral gallery, Santiago de Chile. The artists were called by Andres Duprat –Argentinean curator, scriptwriter and architect– to make up a display that also deals with the experience of the expositive place.

On September 6 at 19:30 hours, Metropoli is going to be inaugurated with Mahaluf’s performance, carried out by 48 people that will be tautening one thousand meters of white elastic bands all over the place.

In Metropoli, Sebastian Mahaluf and Bruno Giliberto were joined by Argentinean curator and director of Visual Arts at the Secretariat of Culture of Andres Duprat Nation, with works that tense body, architecture and city. While the first artist uses installation and performance, the second one builds a story through photography and walls. The artists intervene in the place by disrupting their experience and activating new context senses, in terms of the position within a building of the Ministry of Education (Mahaluf) or Barrio Civico (Giliberto).

Metropoli is the third display included in Gabriela Mistral (Ggm)’s 2013 curatorial program. The artists were chosen by Duprat out of the 216 projects sent to the national call. The curator’s approach also followed the line of an architect and scriptwriter that works the relation between body and spaces from different contexts.

For this show, the curator says, “Sebastian Mahaluf works on architecture by using strings, turnbuckles and plots that energize and transform the space; Bruno Giliberto tackles such topics as the scenery recreation through installations based on graphic and photographic reproduction.”
