“Sylvia Sleigh-La Mirada Inoportuna” at CAAC

The Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC, Seville) will be presenting in late September an exhibit entitled Sylvia Sleigh-La Mirada Inoportuna, dedicated to a fundamental figure in the advance of feminist esthetic discourse.

Faithful to figurative painting during her entire life, Sylvia Sleigh (Wales, 1916 – New York, 2010) turned out to be a centerpiece of the Big Apple’s feminist scene back in the 1970s.

Stripping her paintings of the relentless masculine glimpse and establishing a dialogue between the contemporary and the European pictorial tradition, Sleigh portrayed the realm of the arts in flawless fashion: critics, collectors, artists, men and women, travesties and naked models.
