“Serendipia”: Tania Candiani’s Project for Artium’s Praxis Program

Serendipia, a term that stands for the discovery or accidental find of things that were not questioned; is also the title of artist Tandia Candini’s display, curated by Blanca de la Torre, to be exhibited in Artium from September 18th to late December 2013.

Tania Candiani (Tijuana, 1974) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work ranges from photography and video to rapturous installations and creations of artistic environments. Her projects usually feature an interactive character, and they are regularly developed with the collaboration of the community were they are carried out. Candiani establishes links with such spheres as the scientific, natural history, music, language, sound of the purest daily life, territories she turns into artistic key in order to take us closer to the environment where the project has been conceived, from her peculiar approach and common language.

For Artium, the artist proposes a «laboratory of fortuitous meetings», a sort of discoveries workshop that follows a random order, not a specific search. The scientific and empiric methods applied to accidental finds.

On the other hand, the visitors will have the opportunity to legitimate their inventions at Praxis patent office created at the Museum for this project. Once the discovery has been analyzed, and the artist has approved it, the inventors will be given a patent certificate sealed by the OPP (Praxis Patents Office).
