'Desde Aqui' 2nd International Art Biennale Gathers over 100 Artists

As many as107 artists from Colombian cities Bogota, Medellin, Popayan, Barranquilla, Cali, Cucuta and Bucaramanga, as well as such countries as Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Italy, Germany, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Venezuela, will be showcasing their works in 'Desde Aqui' 2nd International Art Biennale, to be open through September 27 in Colombian Bucaramanga, capital of Santander. Bucaramanga’s Museum of Modern Art (MAMB) is the venue of the Biennale, but artworks created by the participating artists will be also exhibited in different places, such as La Republica Bank, the Colombian-American Center, Cultural Center of the Colombian Eastern Region, Industrial Universities of Santander, UIS Bucarica, El Solar Cultural House, Casa del Libro, the Municipal Institute of Culture and Tourism from Bucaramanga, Custodio Garcia Rovira Culture House and the Colombian-French Alliance.

 

After an internationally open call that received 245 projects from all over the world, the jury made up of curators Ricardo Arcos Palma (Colombia, 1968), Ana Maria Lozano Rocha (Colombia) and Hilda Maria Rodriguez Enriquez (Havana, Cuba, 1960), handpicked 37 projects, including video 'Shipwreck With Spectator' and installation 'Estanteria Modular. Mod Fractal' by Spanish artists Ixone Sadaba (Bilbao, 1977) and Esther Pizarro (Madrid, 1967). Besides, the organization has invited other 70 artists, most of which are locals or were born in other Colombian cities. Likewise, this event also features section 'Eje Colateral', presented as an attached chapter to promote the participation of emerging local artists, whose works are linked to the main characteristic of the Biennale. Colombian Gabriel Hernandez Suarez has been the curator in charge of this section.

 

'Desde Aqui (From Here)' 2nd International Art Biennale, whose director general is artist and university professor Jorge Torres Gonzalez (Bucaramanga, 1963), "is a meeting that generates opportunities, art, respect, search, research, action, a joyful moment for the city in an effort to activate different talents in the country and the continent, by visualizing different expressions and establishing a space of profound ethic and aesthetic reflection to watch or absorb contemporary art and its current devices as a contribution by the artists and their poetics ", the organizers explained.
