Forosur 2013 to Turn Caceres into the Capital of Contemporary Art

Forosur Caceres festival is set to be held on October 24 - November 27, with the presence in that city of one hundred artists, 13 Spanish contemporary art galleries, collectors, experts, critics and directors of museums.

As an expression of Extremadura’s commitment to art and culture, Forosur is going to showcase the work of great creators and emerging artists, in different expressions and formats. With this cultural action, the Education and Culture Council of Extremadura’s Government, organizer of the event, tries to highlight the social relevance of artistic creation, its educational value and economic and tourist impact.

In the first edition of Forosur Caceres’ new format, held on autumn, artists and art enthusiasts tackled some interesting topics. It was a show of highly representative experiences and opinions on art economy and that new staging.

Both the search of future artistic heritage and the need of collaboration between public entities and private collectors in every single aspect of contemporary art, represent the leitmotiv of the event’s new edition.

Artists, theoreticians and collectors are going to play the leading role in this edition. This event in Extremadura is aimed at tracing new routes in order to promote the meeting, reflection, knowledge to contribute to the cultural and artistic exchange in this border region, so close to Portugal, so identified with the neighbor country.

Cristina Iglesias will be the guest artist and her work Pozo IV (Variación 2) is going to be displayed at Caceres Museum’s backyard, which was included in Metonimia, her recent exhibition at Reina Sofia Museum. It’s contemplative work to be admired within the quiet framework of Palacio de las Veletas.
