MoMA to Showcase First Retrospective on Lygia Clark in US

Entitled "Lygia Clark", MoMA – The Museum of Modern Art of New York – is set to display, May 10 – August 24, 2014, the first grand retrospective dedicated to Brazilian Lygia Clark (Belo Horizonte, 1920 - Rio de Janeiro, 1988), in the United States. Lygia Clark will put together nearly 300 pieces created between the 1950s and the 1980 decade, including drawings, paintings, sculptures and participative works. This comprehensive show, which is going to count on loans from public and private collections as well as the works exhibited at the MoMA, has been organized around three key elements: abstraction, neo-concretism and the abandonment of art.

The exhibition will be curated by North American Connie Butler, chief curator with Hammer Museum, and Venezuelan Luis Pérez-Oramas, Latin American Art curator with MoMA, who also included Clark’s 'Trepante/Obra Mole' (1965) in "Inside/Outside" show for Brazil Pavilion within the 55th Venice Biennale, open through November 24. This display has not been the only 2013 international event to include works created by the Brazilian artist.
