DOCUMENTAMADRID 14

The eleventh edition of DOCUMENTAMADRID – whose name is going to be made up of only one word – opens its doors at CINETECA, April 30 - May 11, to consolidate the change initiated back in 2013, thus strengthening the quality criterion that has positioned the event as a benchmark festival in the international stage. The intense program includes professionals, creators and the target audience.

Handpicked among 1,102 movies, over 70 true stories will be screened in Madrid, coming from 26 countries such as USA, France, Germany, Israel, Ukraine, Argentina, Brazil, Poland or Syria.

The Official Selection brings to the competition some of the great documentary titles of the season, to be premiered in Spain. The event will put together works produced by acclaimed directors and the first proposals of new talents. 13 full-length films, along with 20 short films, are going to compete for DocumentaMadrid Award to the Best Documentary. The Official Selection is complemented by two special non-competing sessions.

Created last year, section Spanish Documentary Sceneshows the public in Madrid how acclaimed made-in-Spain documentaries are, by means of 13 titles that compete to obtain the CANAL + award to the best Spanish documentary.

Fernand Melgar, a referent in the movie on migration and identity plays the leading role in this year’s retrospective, while series Focus on Directors, Cine Doré (Spanish Film Library) displays a series of documentaries that pay tribute to great international directors, accompanied by fiction works.

The program also includes such parallel activities as Web Doc Lab in Intermediae, with the collaboration of Rtve.es, a masterclass given by Fernand Melgar and Gatherings so the public can talk to the producers, every morning with free admittance.
