Art Dubai to dedicate its Marker program to Latin America

Art Dubai 2015 will include 92 galleries from 39 countries such as Sabrina Amrani gallery in Madrid, Instituto de Visión in Bogotá, Kurimanzutto in México city, Bolsa de Arte, in Porto Alegre, Perve Galeria in Lisboa and mor • charpentier with venues in Paris and Bogota.

 

The 9th edition of Art Dubai to be held from March 18 to 21, will dedicate its Marker section to Latin America to make emphasis in the historic and contemporary connections between this region and the Arab world. Such section, under the curatorship of Portuguese Luiza Teixeira da Freitas (Lisboa, 1984), will became the biggest art exhibition in Latin America held in the gulf up today. The exhibition will have over 15 latin American artists of which paintings, drawings and sculptures will be presented. Different artists, galleries and institutions throughout Latin America have been invited to participate and they will give some of their works for this thematic exhibition.

 

Also, the program conceived by Teixeira da Freitas for Art Dubai Marker 2015 includes a collection of artists’s works co-presented by Tijuana, the space for presentation and books sale by artists from the Brazilian galleries Vermelho (São Paulo) and The State (UAE) that shows the connection between Latin America and the Arab world; a performance by the prominent Colombian artits María José Arjona (Bogotá, 1973) who will present a series of large duration performances reflecting the concept of time; a sound art program with different Latin American artists, selected by Brazilian Marina Buendía who works for the Vermelho (São Paulo) gallery where she has carried out different curatorship, and Colombian María Quiroga, director of the Luisa Strina gallery (São Paulo); and a program for the cinema at the Art Dubai Cinema with a curated selection of vídeos from the Archive of the Associacão Cultural Videobrasil, which produce vídeos on the geopolitics in the south.

 

Art Dubai Marker represents the great artistic talent in Latin America and it has been a big challenge, according to Luiza Teixeira de Freitas has explained, for whom the selection of artists throughout the region and many creative disciplines offer a singular vision of this successful and exciting artistic scene”.

 

On the other hand, the Latin American and Ibero American presence go beyond this program since among the 92 galleries from 39 countries will participate the Sabrina Amrani Gallery in Madrid, Instituto de Visión in Bogotá, Kurimanzutto in México city, Bolsa de Arte, in Porto Alegre, Perve Galeria de Lisboa y mor • charpentier, with venues in París and Bogotá. Likewise, in the non-profite program of projects, the Brasilian Maria Thereza Alves (São Paulo, 1960) has been recently announce as one of the artists participating in Art Dubai Commisions. Before, Alves, with residence in Berlín, will open her first personal exhibition in Spain at the Andaluz Center of the Contemporary Art in Seville (CCAA, according to its initials in spanish).
