The Community of Madrid to give a 35,000 euros prize at ARCO

Four fairs and more than 150 exhibitions turn Madrid into a large exhibitor for contemporary art this month, including the ARCO fair, which will attract more than 200,000 visitors and in which the community of Madrid will participate giving a 35,000 euros prize and will organize eight exhibitions.

The central theme of the contemporary art during this week is ARCOMadrid, which held its 34th Edition in the last week of February with works from several countries, among which they will choose the winner of the 12th ARCO Community of Madrid Award for young artists.

The Goverment Council has approved the jury members for the award. They include Isabel Rosell, director of Fine Arts at the Community of Madrid; Antonio Sánchez; the Deputy Director of Fine Arts; Ferran Barenblit the director of the Center of Art Dos de Mayo CA2M, among others.

ARCOmadrid is the most important artistic event in Spain and one of the most significant in the world, in addition to the other three fairs - ArtMadrid, JustMad6 and Flecha - in addition to other 150 exhibitions distributed throughout the region, in museums, galleries and art centers in public and private institutions.

This cultural is "an essential appointment on the international calendar of the contemporary art", which has established the region as an international cultural referent, said today the Minister of Presidency and Salvador Victoria’s Government spokesman.

216 galleries of 30 countries, along with more than 100 art professionals will participate at ARCOMadrid, organized by Ifema, from February 25 to March 1, and it will have Colombia as the guest nation.

The decision of the jury for the Arco prize will be on February 25 and its official launch will take place two days later at the CA2M, in Móstoles, where will be given the winning work that will be included in the Contemporary Art collection in the Community of Madrid.

Parallel, Art Madrid'15 will take place in Centro Central Cibeles and 45 galleries will be involved, while JustMad6, dedicated to emerging artists, will be held at the College of Architects of Madrid with the participation of 36 galleries.

The third fair, Flecha, is the oldest one after ARCO and the longest. It is characterized by the exhibition and sale direct from the artists, without intermediaries. It will remain opened from February 12 to March 8 at the Arturo Soria Plaza shopping center.

On the other hand, the CA2M will showcase a selection of the ARCO Foundation collection and will launch the first catalogue on these funds.

Finally, as every year, the Community offers during these dates the proposals on contemporary Spanish artists at the Community of Madrid-Alcalá 31 and el Canal de Isabel II halls.
