NH COLLECTION calls the NH COLLECTION Second Prize

Hugo Rovira - Director Gral NH Hotel Group   With the desire to support and promote the Contemporary Art, NH Collection has signed a strategic alliance with the prestigious fair, ARCOmadrid to create the NH Collection award for art contemporary arc 2015, coordinated by the contemporary art curator Juan Alfaro, which responsibility has been assumed in this first edition by renowned Mexican artist José Dávila. In addition, and as part of this agreement, NH Collection will have a space 'Guest Relation' where will provide the most relevant information to make the most of your stay in Madrid.

 

NH Collection I Prize of ARCO 2015

 

Within the collaboration agreement signed with ARCOmadrid that has as main objective to support and promote the contemporary art, Hugo Rovira, General Director of the Business Unit in Spain, submitted the winning work of the NH Collection 1 Prize of contemporary art: Untitled 2014 (Galería Travesía Cuatro) by Mexican artist José Dávila.

 

“This award is part of the great commitment of the NH Hotel Group in favor of culture and art as an element of evolution and a differentiating factor. That is why, in addition to this initiative, all of our NH Collection hotels will have a collection consisting of works of the most important contemporary artists in the future. It is a project uniting art with the character of the NH Collection mark and that turns it into a special patron, “Hugo Rovira said.

 

The work of Jose Dávila, winner of the prize that will be exhibited in the VIP area of NH Collection during the celebration of ARCOmadrid 2015 and will be incorporated into the private collection of NH Hotel Group, located on the executive floor of the Collection NH Eurobuilding in Madrid, an emblematic hotel from the NH Collection brand.

 

The winning work is composed by a superposition of moving structures and of a chromatic degraded play recalls us the movement in the work of Alexander Calder as well as the design to the homage present in the proposals Josef Albers. Jose Dávila, one of the referents in the visual art of Mexico, has developed his work the relationship between place and fiction, space and time, related to architecture and geometry as the central theme. To this purpose, he has used a wide repertoire of supports such as sculpture, installation, photography and drawing.

 

Since 1996, Davila has participated in individual and collective exhibitions both in Mexico and abroad. He has been awarded the national scholarship for young artists of the FONCA 2000-2001, FECA 2004-2005, the annual residence by invitation of the Kunstwerke, in Berlin and with the support of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the residence of Camden Arts Centre in London.

 

The jury that has selected the winning work has been composed of international collectors of contemporary art of renowned prestigious such as Marisa Perret (Switzerland), Fernando Eseverri (Venezuela), Carlos Marsano (Peru), Rafael Nieto Loaiza (Colombia), Jimena Blázquez (Spain), Victorino Roson (Spain), Laurie Ziegler (Los Angeles) and Daniel Levinas (Argentina), Gil Bronner (Germany) and Wim Pijbes (Netherlands).

In addition, simulating a reception of a NH Collection hotel, visitors who come to the VIP area at the fair can find useful information about the most relevant and touristic points of the city, the best restaurants and the best entertainment offers as well as where to find the best buys or best shows. The space will feature a qualified staff at NH collection 'Guest Relation', which will serve the necessity of visitors and adapt their tastes to the options related leisure, culture and tourism... offering a city like Madrid.

 

Commitment to art

 

This initiative with ARCOmadrid is not the only one related to contemporary art. Thus, this award will take place in the great events of contemporary art carrying out in the cities where flagship hotels of NH Collection brand, such as Amsterdam or Berlin are located.

 

In addition, NH Hotel Group will undertake a project of commitment for artistic patronage that has as main objective the inclusion of minimal works and of conceptual art at NH Collection hotels, Premium brand from the company present in Europe and Latin America.

 

In this way, the art directly contributes to the extraordinary experience of the clients in these hotels. Currently, the private collection of NH Hotel Group has works by artists like adaptará among others.
