The 12th Biennial of Havana brings today a new reason to embark on a small boat crossing to the town of Casablanca: see the new image of the Hershey train station.
Casablanca, a famous overseas town by the giant Christ sculpted by Jilma Madera, is also the only source and destination of the single electric train still traveling in Cuba.
For years, the small station bordering the local pier languished until degenerating into a dark corner as the waters of the harbor, until the art-and not the Christ- acted a miracle.
The responsible was veteran French conceptual artist Daniel Buren (1938), who hardly two days ago was invested here with the Title Doctor Honoris Causa by the Cuban University of Arts.
With more than 50 years of work with visual tools, famous for its white bands, Buren intervened the station supported by the community to beautify something hitherto depressing.
More than 300 artists, gallery owners and curators from 45 countries gathered in this capital, to enjoy the biggest event of visual arts in Cuba, aimed this time at discussing the works with the community.
