Colombian Botero Captivates Beijing with Voluptuous Figures

Beijing.- With his typical trend for the volume and color, and his creations that have an unmistakable artistic language, Colombian artist Fernando Botero captivated today here a large audience with an exquisite exhibition. Botero in China, a painting exhibition by one of the best known contemporary artists in the world, was opened today at this capital's National Museum of China.

This is the first display by the Colombian artist in this Asian nation, jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture of China and the Colombian embassy in this country.

During the opening ceremony, Botero, owner of "las gordas," considered an honor to exhibit his works in this country with one-thousand-year civilization and an uninterrupted culture.

With a 96-painting exhibition depicting the exclusive universe of volumes, colorful and irony, focused on his native Colombia, Botero became the first living and foreign artist that achieves to exhibit his works in the famous Museum, one of the most visited internationally.

The exhibition, which is part of the activities to commemorate this year's 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Colombia, shows the willingness of both governments and peoples to strengthen cultural exchanges.
