Felix Angel to exhibit at Capital One Bank Corporate Center - McLean, Virginia

An exhibition of recent work by Washington DC artist Felix Angel will open at Capital One Bank Center/Corporate Headquarters in McLean, Virginia, on November 23rd, 2015. Capital One Bank has also acquired Felix Angel's work entitled "West Africa" for its Corporate Collection

On October 7th of this year, Angel gave a talk at the Bank's Center as part of the celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month.

The works selected for exhibition belong to the Paper Archaeologies Series. Collage has been always part of Felix Angel’s repertoire throughout his entire career since 1969.

The Archaeologies Series, initiated in 2004 uses bit and pieces of photographs found in magazines and newspapers. Each artwork is related to a particular world event registered graphically in the printed news.  Angel deconstructs the photographs and rearranges the tiny fragments in beautiful abstract compositions that at a second reading begin to connect with the memory of the viewer once the fragments of the news are recognized, as in an archaeological reconstruction.

Colombian-born Felix Angel (www.felixangel.com) has exhibited extensively, both individually and collectively in the Americas and Europe. His work is in several American museum such as the San Francisco Museum of Art, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, and the Bass Museum in Miami, as well in institutions in Latin America, and the Essex Collection in England. He has executed nine public commissions in South America.

In addition to his work as an artist Angel was curator at Washington's Art Museum of the Americas (1978-1989,OAS), and curator and director of the Cultural Center of the Inter American Development Bank (1992-2011, IDB), both in Washington DC. He is a contributor editor to the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress of the United States of America. He has published seven books, nearly one hundred catalogues of ?curated ?exhibitions, and countless articles about art.
