Cuban National Ballet to Perform in Havana After Tour

Havana.- After a successful tour for several months in Spain and Oman, the Cuban National Ballet prepares to return to Havana's stages with upcoming performances on November 28 and 29. The galas at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theatre will have a varied repertoire, to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Casa Editora Abril and the 20th anniversary of the Jose Marti Cultural Society.

 

According to a statement of that prestigious company, the program includes En las sombras de un vals, with choreography by the prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso and music by Josef Strauss.

 

Also is included Cuba dentro de un piano, based on a famous poem by the Spanish poet Rafael Alberti and with choreography by Eduardo Blanco.

 

The music of this presentation includes piano works by famous Cuban composers of the 19th and 20th centuries as Manuel Saumell, Ignacio Cervantes, Ernesto Lecuona and Harold Gramatges.

 

The pas de deux from Excelsior and the Don Quixote suite are also in the program. The Don Quixote suite is under the artistic and choreographic direction of Alicia Alonso.

 

Also with choreography by Alicia Alonso will be performed the ballet 'Lucia Jerez', with original libretto by Fina Garcia Marruz and inspired by Jose Marti's novel 'Amistad funesta'.

 

On the leading roles will be Viengsay Valdes, Anette Delgado, Dani Hernandez, Victor Estevez, Estheysis Menendez, Gabriela Mesa, Ginett Moncho, Adrian Masvidal, Daniela Gomez and Ariel Martinez.

 

Also are included two young dancers, who recently entered the Cuban National Ballet and were awarded in the International Ballet Students Competition of Havana in 2014, Barbara Fabelo and Patricio Reve, who will perform the pas de deux from Excelsior.
