Chocolate con café Festival in Guantánamo

By: Alain Valdés

From December 1 to 4, Guantanamo province will host the Chocolate con café Festival, a new cultural initiative that seeks to promote the territory’s most autochthonous traditions.

The event, possible thanks to the idea and the effort of popular singer Waldo Mendoza, aims at making visible expressions of the culture from this province, which in their most pure forms are unknown in the rest of the country like changüí, nengón and kiribá.

The event, in the context of the Fiesta Guantanamera, will be an opportunity to celebrate and to share mostly through music, as Mendoza said in a press meeting, and for that reason they will count with the artistic talent coming mostly from the Eastern city.

He also refers to the participation of Buena Fe duet, Leyanis López and Leo Vera, all of them born in Guantanamo and of artists from the rest of the country such as of El Niño y La Verdad and Qva Libre musical groups, Ivette Cepeda, Vania Borges, Raúl Lora, and TV programs Lucas and Piso 6.

This edition, the first one of an event that pretends to establish and to last in time, is sponsored by the Musical Editions and Recording Company (EGREM, as per its initials in Spanish), the Cuban Music Institute, Agencia Musicuba and Guantanamo’s cultural institutions.

Chocolate con café Festival is named after the province’s economy most important products around which have been established the features identifying the territory in Cuba and abroad.
