Dominican Republic to Display Art and Music during Cultural Week in Cuba

Havana.- The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Cuba reported today that it will celebrate a cultural week from February 23 to 27, in activities of homage to art, music and the independence of his country. Socorro Castellanos, Minister Counselor of the diplomatic installation, told reporters that the program will open on Tuesday in the historic centre of Havana with the unveiling of a dedicated to Sonia Silvestre, considered one of the leading Dominican singers.

 

The activities include a plan called the Juan Pablo Duarte Plan, which includes a photographic exhibition of Wifredo García, deposit wreaths before monuments of the Cuban Apostle, José Martí, and the father of the Dominican nation, Juan Pablo Duarte, as well as two lectures on the evolution of democracy and independence.

 

A gala tribute at the Marti Theatre will close the week of culture on Saturday 27, emancipation day in Dominican Republic, with the premiere of a piece of music and the presentation of issues recognized in the Caribbean nation, said Castellanos.

 

The evening will be accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba.

 

For his part, Ambassador, Joaquín Gerónimo, thanked the cultural institutions of the island to support them in the celebration of the event, after that it will serve as a chance to share art and highlight the brotherhood between both peoples.

 

In addition to the cultural week, the delegation of Santo Domingo prepares for the next few months a sample of the Dominican film in Havana.
