Call to 1st Havana Design Biennial

Some days ago it was officially presented the call to the 1st International Design Biennial of Havana at the Parque Central Hotel in the Cuban capital city which will take place from May 14 to 20 with the purpose to recognize this specialty in our country and to highlight the value of many of these professionals.

The event has been organized under the slogan Design and Prosperity with seats also in Camagüey and Santiago de Cuba with the objective to involve decision-makers, designers, critics and consumers while attracting those who remain indifferent to a discipline able to contribute to the daily life comfort and the economic development of the nation.

To this objective will contribute the numerous spaces that during the whole month of May will host exhibits in the capital like Casa de las Américas, the Higher Institute of Industrial Design, the Gran Teatro Alicia Alonso, Fábrica de Arte Cubano and some gastronomical places designed by Cuban professionals.

Famous creators and foreign students have been invited to these samples dedicated to graphics, furniture, audiovisual, posters, interior design and industrial and clothing design thus favoring  the Exchange of experiences and information about others ways of creating.

The Biennial will include four theoretical events that will take place at the Convention Hall in this capital: the First Colloquium Design and Creative Industries for Development, the Seventh Colloquium of Public Policies and Design, Iberia- American Symposium for the Promotion of Design and the 16 Congress of ALADI.

The Higher Institute of Industrial Design will develop free of charge Work-Shops with subjects like “The Market of Personal Image”, “Image and Brand: from the legal to the creative” and “Sustainable Design and Renewable Energy”.

The event will be the appropriate context to present the 2016 ONDI Prizes that the National Office of Design confers every two year in the categories of Industrial Design – that included that of clothing- and Visual Communication Design.
