Cuban National Ballet to Perform in Canada

Havana.- The Cuba National Ballet, directed by prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, will offer several performances of the classic Don Quixote in Canada, scheduled for May, the company announced recently. Ballet presentations will take place from 4 to 7 May at Montreal's Place des Arts, described as the largest cultural and artistic complex in Canada.

The performances will bring together on stage the principal dancers Viengsay Valdes, Anette Delgado, Sadaise Arencibia and Dani Hernandez and young talents like Adrian Masvidal, Raul Abreu, Rafael Quenedit and Patricio Reve.

This classic ballet is inspired by The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha, one of the most influential works of literature, written by Spanish Miguel de Cervantes y Saavedra. It was choreographed by Alonso based on the original work of French Marius Petipa and the version made by Russian Alexander Gorsky.

From a creative point of view, the staging conceived by Alonso exhibits a detailed work on the authenticity of cultural references present in the novel.
