Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés to play at International Jazz Festival in Barcelona

Havana.- Chucho Valdés will star the inaugural concert of the 48th Voll-Damm International Jazz Festival of Barcelona at the Barts room this October, together to American sax player Joe Lovano and the rest of the quintet formed by the multi-awarded Cuban pianist with other musicians.

“To have Valdés as the Festival’s sponsor for three years on a row makes possible to develop projects like this one”, emphasized Joan Anton Cararach, the event’s artistic director to the online journal El Periódico.

According to the source, the performance at the Voll-Damm “will enable to enjoy two legends eager to explore new ways, quite a luxury. Both will start in Barcelona a tour through Europe and United States that will end with the recording of an album for Blue Note”.

Also important in the event will be the presence of Cuban musician Gonzalo Rubalcaba who will offer a master class to students of the Conservatori del Liceu and together to his quartet will homage Charlie Haden in a performance scheduled for November 3.
