B.B.S. - A homage

Interior view, the Bernard and Simone Steinitz Collection. © Sothebys/ArtDigital Studio. This auction of over 170 pieces is primarily taken from the collection of legendary dealer Bernard Steinitz, nicknamed the "Prince of Dealers" by his peers.

Armed with an iron determination and always on the lookout for pieces whose importance he was the only person to understand, Steinitz left a magnificent collection marked by his taste for 17th and 18th century furniture, among other pieces.

The splendors of the collection include a pair of pewter and ebony marquetry medals from the Cabinet des médailles of Louis XIV at Versailles (ca. 1684), a pair of large gilt-bronze mounted Chinese white porcelain Kangxi vases (1662-1722), a marble figure of Diana as huntress (ca. 1600), and a rare pair of bronze horses from the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period, remarkable for their naturalistic rendering as well their posture and details.
