Tomorrow Saturday 8 October at CROSSROADS Art Show

New and fresh, the fair showcases the best international contemporary art and the most current artistic trends presented by forty-seven galleries handpicked by a team of renowned curators. CROSSROADS Art Show launched last night at the Old Truman Brewery in East London.

Social comment and awareness are some of the topics that come across through many of the works exhibited. Many artists use existing and found materials to give a new perspective on sometimes disregarded or overseen matters. Such works include Janaina Mello Landini’s poetic red installation made from ropes from the port of Cagliari (Galleria Macca, Cagliari); Paula De Solminihac’s pieces made from her diary pages (Galerie Dix9, Paris); Ella Littwitz (Galería Silvestre, Tarragona/Madrid) uses old children’s footballs that were lost in Palestinian mine fields; Soheila Sokhanvari (Kristin Hjellegerde, London) uses expired passports arranged in compositions that convey family ties and geographical movements. Paolo Masi’s  (Fritelli arte contemporanea, Florence) square series employ discarded cardboard layered with tape, toilet paper, amongst other materials, whilst Gil Gijon’s poignant portraits are made from dust extracted from the sitter’s vacuum cleaners, thus conveying the physical and material identity. Books, banknotes, coins, footballs, bricks and every day objects are employed, taken out of context, provoking and triggering new perceptions on the familiar.

The Middle Field will be a meeting point for discussions throughout the event focusing on the role of the exhibitions and their relevance for video art creation.

THIS IS NOT A RESTAURANT -  Food + Art performance
This is not a Restaurant is an installation by Argentine chef Martin Milesi, Founder of "UNA - One Table Experience". At UNA, Milesi brought his ideal concept to life: Only One Table/ Only Twelve Guests. His vision, a pop-up restaurant at St. Pancras Clock Tower, London, now will delight visitors at CROSSROADS through a journey through Latin American cuisine. Within an installation and screening of Food + Art video loops, three times a day, selected guests will become participants of his concept. Between servings, Milesi will also be sketching and writing recipies and thoughts on the stand. A unique sensorial experience. Saturday  at 4.00pm/5.00pm/ 6.30pm. Please sign up at our VIP desk at reception for participation. Limited availability.

A dialogue between cultures, geographies, history, diverse political situations and aesthetics intersect at CROSSROADS, in a relaxed and accessible way.

CROSSROADS Art Show is on until Sunday 9 October.
