Classic Ballet Photo Exhibition Opens in Havana

Havana.- Three photographic exhibitions have opened today paying tribute to the world of classical dance. The photographs by Cuban artists have been put on show only few days before the beginning of the ''Alicia Alonso'' International Ballet Festival in Havana.

The exhibition is being held in the lobby and other spaces of the Teatro Nacional de Cuba, one of the main venues of the Ballet Festival.

'En el olimpo de lo cubano', by Nancy Reyes, occupies the lobby of the Avellaneda hall. The pieces are inspired by African gods of the Yoruba pantheon and the photos have been accumulated over many years of work with ballet companies.

The documentary 'Tras bambalina', about the ballet 'Las sulfides', can be also seen in the Avellaneda hall. Leysis Quesada's photographs focus on a new artistic vision of classical ballet, according to the curators.

The young photographer, Gabriel Davalos, will display his work, a selection of black and white photographs, in the Covarrubias hall.

'Habana Sensual' - which has been shown in prestigious galleries around the world - is a collection of snapshots of Cuban dancers walking through Havana's streets. The photographs are part of a book by the same name, launched during the last Ballet Festival in Havana.
