Martha Graham Dance Company to Perform in Cuba

A highlight of the season for the Martha Graham Dance Company its engagement at the Havana International Ballet Festival in October 2016.
 
Having performed in Cuba only once (in 1943), the Company is thrilled to return to participate in this historic festival's 25th season.
 
The Company will present two programs of mixed repertory in Havana at the Teatro Mella and will also participate in the festival's Gala at the Gran Teatro de la Habana.
 
As part of the tour, the Company will engage in cultural exchange activities with dance students.
 
The 25th edition of the Havana International Ballet Festival is slated for Oct. 28-Nov. 6 with a turnout of 20 top-of-the-line dancers and over ten dance companies from overseas.
 
The Martha Graham Dance Company has been a leader in contemporary dance since 1926. Today, the Company is embracing a new programming vision that showcases masterpieces by Graham alongside newly commissioned works by contemporary artists. With programs that offer a rich thematic narrative, the Company creates new platforms for contemporary dance and multiple points of access for audiences.
 
Since its inception, the Martha Graham Dance Company has received international acclaim from audiences in more than 50 countries throughout North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Russia, and the Middle East.
 
The Company has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, the Paris Opera House, Covent Garden, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, as well as at the base of the Great Pyramids in Egypt and in the ancient Herod Atticus Theatre on the Acropolis in Athens. In addition, the Company has also produced several award-winning films broadcast on PBS and around the world.
