The annual two-week St. Lucia Jazz and Arts Festival, a staple on the island's events calendar each spring for 25 years, has been scrapped because of high costs and low financial returns.
Headliners in the past featured international and local musicians, including Wynton Marsalis, Lou Rawls, Ziggy Marley and John Legend.
A Summer Festival will replace the Jazz Fest and will include music, food and the arts. In addition, the St. Lucia Carnival in July will expand to three weeks, followed later by the Creole and Heritage Festival in November.
This is the second major Caribbean music festival to be canceled for 2017. The Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival, originally slated for September, was scrapped due to lack of headline acts available during the time period.
