US Ben Jones to Exhibit at Fine Arts Museum

Havana.- U.S plastic artist Ben Jones will exhibit his inedit work at the Fine Arts Museum of Cuba from next Juliy 21, the institution announced.

According to its office of Public Relations, the artist has just arrived at this capital to prepare his first personal exhibition here, scheduled to be in site until October 23 in the Transitional Room of the fourth floor of the Universal Art building.

Jones will show a set of inedit works along with pieces dated from 2010 to 2017, including part of the series Sanfre (Blood), based on the invasion of Iraq under the administration of US former president George Bush.

With the title Resistencia (Resistance), the exhibition deals with different types of abuses: racial, gender, warmongering, among others, and points to continued violence against the African American community and to environmental problems, such as the oil spill in the oceans.

The artist, who lives in New Jersey, has been visiting Cuba since 1977 and has participated in three previous exhibitions and shared presentations with local musicians.

In addition, in 2014, Jones coordinated for the National Museum of Fine Arts the exhibition Afro-American Artists and Abstraction, and was accompanied at that time by about 80 U.S. citizens who visited Havana´s art schools and plastic arts centers.
