Joao Vasco Paiva. Screening

Edouard Malingue Gallery is pleased to announce that Joao Vasco Paiva’s work ‘Threshold’ (2013) will be on view at Broadway Cinemateque a part of the M+ Film screening program ‘City Limits’. Exploring the urbaisation and development of various Asian cities, the program explores the social, economic, political, environmental and creative transformations which have taken place in cities across the region. Taking inspiration from Mamoru Oshii’s 1995 film ‘Ghost in the Shell’, Paiva has created a video montage of Hong Kong, removing all traces of advertising, resulting in an unsettling, discordant yet surprisingly calming depiction of the city. By removing the usually overwhelmingly abundant visual distractions, Paiva encourages the viewer to focus on the urban and architectural forms of the city.

The ‘M+ Screenings: City Limits’ program runs from Friday 4 – Sunday 6 August.
