Opening Kailiang Yang - Kunsthalle Dresden

Kailiang Yang introduces his series of new works on landscapes, which turns viewing the images themselves a natural experience. With free brushwork, earthy colors and the alternation between light and twilight, the artist creates the characteristic haze in his works. The tree plays the leading role in this cycle. As the only persistent constant, it is clearly expressed in the foreground, is sometimes blurred in the mist and sometimes only a few indicated branches protrude from the canvas edge into the composition. The surrounding landscape is only indicated but not defined, so the place of the event remains vague and enigmatic. These fantastically transfigured and mystically enchanted places give viewers a lot of room to immerse in the work and to think about the landscape before the mental eye. Thus, we are drawn into the silence, devoid of humans, and can almost experience the overwhelming natural force physically.

Kailiang Yang was born in China and studied painting in Ji'nan and later in Hamburg. Today he lives in Berlin. In 2003 he won the DAAD Award for outstanding foreign students. His works have been exhibited in numerous exhibitions in Europe and China.
