Sanatorium Gallery. Painted Images

The exhibition Painted Images presents four successful artists, all with a focus on painting. Coming from four countries and three continents, they are inviting us on a thought journey across the entire globe. Their different characters and different realms of perception inspire us to follow the power of their individual artistic expressions.

SEO is originally from Korea. She studied in Gwangju at Cho-sun University and in Berlin at the University of the Arts. Today she lives and works in Berlin. Her art deals with globalization and its impact on humans. In order to work out the essence of things, SEO makes conceptual use of deconstruction and construction as well as Western and Eastern techniques simultaneously. In this way she approaches her subject matter formally and in terms of content from different positions.

Jean Y. Klein was born in Canada. At the age of 16 he went to Paris and studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts. Later he started his studies at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. Today, he lives in Berlin and on Peloponnes in Greece. His artistic focus is on today's reality and on the ancient world alike. He finds his inspiration in the tension of the temporal distance between the past and today.

Andy Denzler is an artist from Switzerland. His work ideas come from the new media. He uses his own photographs as templates and processes these in oil. In the process, he first develops the motif with an energetic brushstroke and then forces the paint across the canvas horizontally. More blurred than clearly recognizable, he thereby captures the contradiction between movement and standstill.

Jochen Proehl was born in Germany and spent his childhood and youth in Istanbul, where he lives and works today. He studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin, later took teaching assignments at various universities and also held a visiting tenure at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. Since 2013, he teaches photography at Bahçeşehir University Istanbul and has been its artistic director since 2017. In art, he deals with the earth's surface. He thinks of the ground as a "perfused organ" and in abstract paintings creates imaginary landscapes of earth structures that can be encountered in everyday life.
