Serielle Formationen. 1967/2017

The 1967 exhibition Serielle Formationen at Frankfurter University’s Studio Gallery represented a landmark in art history. Displaying 62 artworks by 48 artists selected on the basis of their ‘serial order’, it was the first thematic exhibition on Minimalist trends in Germany. Curated by Peter Roehr and Paul Maenz, the exhibition was accompanied by an ambitious catalogue containing six original graphical works, extensive artwork documentation, and artist statements.

As part of its series ‘Minimalism in Germany’ the Daimler Art Collection is making a first attempt to re-stage this historical presentation. Curated by Renate Wiehager, the current exhibition presents works from the Daimler Art Collection as well as loans from German and international collections. The European Zero movement, Nouveau Réalisme, Pop Art and Op Art, are represented alongside American Minimal and Conceptual Art. Exhibited artists include Carl Andre, Thomas Bayrle, Enrico Castellani, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, Piero Manzoni, Frank Stella and Andy Warhol.
