U.S. Artist to Make First Personal Exhibition in Cuba

U.S. artist Nanette Carter is preparing her first personal exhibition in Cuba, scheduled for September 22 at the Universal Art building of the National Museum of Fine Arts.

With the title Hope in Harmony, a total of 14 works made of oil and oil pencil on mylar (polyethylene terephthalate), a technique born in the 50s and very common in the works of the artist, will arrive in Havana.

According to the coordinator of the exhibition, Carlos Vicente, the exhibition will be available to the public until November 19 and symbolizes Nanette's call for the survival of art in a world consumed by technology.

According to Vicente, the pieces will be divided into three groups: Afrocentinela, El Peso and Cantilever, the latter referring to a series of works made with the rigid structural element used in construction.

Nanette Carter (Columbus, Ohio, 1954) is a prestigious artist, professor at the Pratt Institute in New York and recognized in the world for her peculiar way of manifesting abstraction and collage.
