NKAME, One of Spain’s Best-Published Books

A book on celebrated Cuban artist Belkis Ayon entitled Nkame. Belkis Ayon has been recognized with the second prize granted by Spain’s Ministry of Culture as one of the best volumes published in that country in 2010.*

 

In recognition to the publishing work, the prize comprises the spread of the volume in upcoming national and international book fairs

 

The jury –its members assessed 318 titles in all broken down in five major thematic groups: Arts, Bibliophily, Facsimiles, Children’s Books and Juvenile Literature- was presided over by Monica Fernandez, deputy general director of Book, Reading and Spanish Literature Promotion.

 

Other jury members were Teresa Mezquita for the Spanish National Library; Andres Fernandez for the Federación de Gremios de Editores de España; Manuel Vacas for the Federación Empresarial de Industrias Gráficas de España; Augusto Jurado for the Club de Gráficos Eméritos; Natividad Correas and Rocio San Claudio, in representation of the Director General of Book, Reading and Spanish Literature Promotion, and Marta Saenz Bascones, an expert attached to the Ministry of Culture.

 

In the Art category, the first prize went to Los juguetes de las vanguardias (several authors), published by Fundacion Museo Picasso Malaga, and Legado Paul Christine and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso; produced by Ediciones El Viso. The second prize went to Nkame. Belkis Ayón (several authors), published by Turner Publicaciones, S.L.; and the third place winner was Miguel Hernandez. 25 illustrated poems, illustrated by several authors and published by Kalandraka Ediciones, Andalusia.
