The Sea and the Arts within reach of a memory

Carlos Mauricio Navarro Gonzalez (Havana, August 30th , 1972), Cuban artist, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of San Alexander, disciple of great masters such as the sculptor Rita Longa; the painter and art teacher Antonia Eiriz Vázquez and the ceramist Julio Velázquez Ronda.

He is a restorer by profession and sculptor by vocation; he has spent the last ten years of artistic creation to sculptural ceramics.

His work, influenced by artistic movements such as expressionism and surrealism, reveals the pessimistic side of life and existential anguish of the individual aligned in modern society; hence he appeals to Bohemians, marginalized and Amerindians to express his isolation, naturalism and indomitable spirit.

When representing the ancient inhabitants of America with their costumes, myths, legends, rituals ... defenders of nature and the dignity of man, the sculptural work of Carlos Mauricio hits emotionally and gets tears, dreams and sufferings transcend in the spirit of their descendants and visual history of the Americas.

His sculptures are part of  private collections in Spain, France, United States, Lebanon, Venezuela, Cuba and other Latin American countries.

Just twenty five kilometers east of Havana, between the sea and the mountains, you will find Arte Nativo, a hostel-gallery-workshop where, from the hands of this artist, you can mold the clay, applying work-therapy techniques, or materialize an illusion in a sculptural piece.
