Havana: Sex in the City

A score of artists mustered up under the curatorial view of Piter Ortega will be exhibiting pieces especially created for the Sex in the City collective exhibition that will open on January 18 at 8:00 pm at the La Acacia Gallery.

The list of artists includes both boldface names such as Roberto Fabelo, Rocío García, Duvier del Dago, Humberto Díaz, René Peña, Jorge López Pardo and Adonis Flores, among others– and young creators who artworks are now basking in the limelight, like Lancelot Alonso, Stainless, Yenisley Yanes, Tai Ma Campos, Álvaro José Brunet, William Acosta and Julio Ferrer, only to name a few. This generational coexistence is no doubt a bull’s-eye hit for the curator as he proposes a dialogue on a homoerotic discourse from the standpoint of art, including all of its aspects and extensions: gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgenic…

Píter pieced together a number of artists who have traditionally addressed that particular erotic universe and others whose artworks have stood tall in that sense. All the works share a strong and piquing visual and semantic impact, especially for their lewdness and irreverence. The curatorial thesis intends to delve into that vague and uncertain area in which the erotic and the pornographic melt into each other and their borderlines get blurry.

The exhibition will remain open thru Feb. 28 at the gallery’s regular opening hours: Tuesday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
