MEDIALAB-PRADO OPENS BRAND NEW VENUE

After a ten-year journey, Medialab-Prado inaugurated on Friday April 19 its venue at the old Serreria Belga, next to Paseo del Prado. This building represents one of the few examples of industrial architecture that remain in Madrid and has been specifically restored for this matter.

It features two peculiar architectural elements: "La Cosa", an interactive and programmable devise that communicates both sections, and the digital façade, a LED-tapestry that covers that north wall and displays a permanent program of interactive projects.

Medialab-Prado, a municipal program linked to Madrid City Hall's Arts, Sport and Tourism Area, is conceived as a city laboratory of digital culture production, research and spreading, a space open to the participation and cooperative work inspired by the processes and practices that take place on the network.

Medialab-Prado kicks off its career at Serreria Belga with an intense program of activities that can be carried out because of its collaboration network with other organizations and initiatives, as well as its active community of users. The program follows previously-defined guidelines, such as the Inclusiva-net platformthat targets the networking culture; the pro-common laboratory, which is made up of several work groups that deal with common goods from different spheres; Interactivos? platform, aimed at exploring creative and educative uses of technology or Visualizar platform, in charge of exploring the visualization of information and data culture.

Furthermore, after having moved to its new venue Medialab-Prado starts two projects up in order to attract new publics and consolidate its local relationship: Estacion_fluor, a program of visits, workshops and other activities that are focused on children and young people creativity, and Hacer Barrio, a series of activities to strengthen ties between Medialab-Prado and its local context, as well as to put on the map and support new local and productive communities.
