Cultural Center of Mexico becomes temple of Michelangelo and Leonardo

The Italian ambassador in Mexico, Alessandro Busacca and President National Council for Culture and the Arts of Mexico, Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, inaugurated the  exhibitions, to which the president of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, was unable to attend as planned, at the end of a intense Cabinet meeting.

Tovar y de Teresa said that for 80 years Fine Arts has housed the great works of universal art, from the ancient art to even the most contemporary, "but today represents an unusual event to receive two men who have given to humanity their art and knowledge, paradigms of universal culture".

"They are names and figures that are in the collective imagination positioned as the figures in which talent highlights, what  is creativity and what is best in humans, "said the director of Conaculta.

Sculptors, painters and poets all at once the two artists shared a "deep curiosity about the workings of the universe and body human, "said Mexican head of Culture.

The peculiarity of the magna exhibitions is that they feature very little known works of both Renaissance artists which are exhibited for the first time in Latin America: "Leonardo da Vinci and the idea of beauty" portrays different times of his life, hard-work periods up to his last years.

The "Codex on the flight of birds" of notes on anatomy, physics and aerodynamics from the observation of different species of birds, it is for many a premonition of modern aviation.

"These two pages represent the highest moments of genius Leonardo,” Giovanni Saccani told to the reporters, director of the Library Real of Turin, who loaned Leonardo  pieces of works that will be exhibited until August 23.

Leonardo is shown as an architect, engineer, naturalist, "but also there is a part that represents Leonardo the man: in the upper right corner Leonardo wrote his shopping list," Saccani said.

This is the first time that library collection reaches Latin America, with a study for the angel's face of "The Virgin of the Rocks", symbol of the library.

On the other hand, the sample on Michelangelo full of architecture and anatomy studies includes two of his vital parts: the "Christ Portacroce (or Christ Giustiniani) "and" David-Apollo".

Christ (1514-1516) is a block of marble that Michelangelo decided to leave because of a black streak that found in the marble face, and it is the first time is taken out from Italy, and as for the "David-Apollo" (1532-1534), it caused a moral crisis towards the end of his life and he left it.

The aim of the exhibition is to present the path of creators for half a millennium ago through drawings, oil paintings, documents and sculptures.
