PULSE Miami Beach kicked off Miami’s Art Week yesterday with a well-attended Private Preview Brunch, welcoming an exciting and engaged group of curators, collectors and art world notables.
Guests relaxed into the evening's Opening Celebration among the three outdoor lounges and on the oceanside VIP Lounge. Stacy Engman, Kalup Linzy, Kate Durbin and Amir Baradaran came together for a lively PERSPECTIVES talk about performance art and the culture of “spectacle” moderated by Hyperallergic’s Editor-in-Chief, Hrag Vartanian.
Collectors and VIPs responded enthusiastically to the fair's expansion to two tents and the earlier Tuesday opening which generated ample sales. A new series of work by Canadian painter Andrew Salgado, exhibiting in a solo presentation with Beers Contemporary, sold out before the end of the day. Cecilia Gonzalez Art Contemporanea of Lima, Peru, which presented a solo exhibition of photographs by Mariu Palacios, sold its largest work to US museum and Hosfelt Gallery of San Francisco sold an intricate drawing by Marco Maggi as soon as the doors opened. "The critical eye is here" said Paul Loya of Paul Loya Gallery.
