Architecture firm cuarto interior will design the VIP lounge at Arcomadrid 2018

The project by Madrid-based firm CUARTO INTERIOR won the 6th VIP Lounge Design Contest of ARCOmadrid 2018, an invite-only competition promoted by AD magazine and the Fair.

The contestants—Cuarto Interior, Studio Madrid in Love and Paloma Cañizares—submitted extremely high-level, professional projects. In the end, the decision of the jury, made up of Íñigo Navarro, from the Leandro Navarro gallery; Belén Domecq, interior designer; Ignacio Vicens, architect; Sandra Segimón, from the Sushita restaurant chain; Enric Pastor, director of AD magazine; Sofía Alonso, from Ifema, and Carlos Urroz, director of ARCO, was announced after a comprehensive analysis of each proposal.

The winning project, Cuarto Interior, inspired by light and polar auroras, comprises three spaces divided into an entrance area, a lounge bar and a restaurant, where the lighting and the designer furniture will play a key role. For the ceiling, the firm aims to create a sky in the centre of the space made up of 17 layers lit up with a dynamic LED, recreating an aurora. Collaborating in the production are TAO Iluminación, that will supply the lighting product, and SANCAL, who will provide the furniture.

For the jury, the proposal of Cuarto Interior fulfilled the main selection criteria with its ephemeral design which understands the concept of a VIP Room that will get a lot of visitors over five days, and an element of surprise and added value. Another key element, rated especially highly by the jury, is the connection with one of the main themes of ARCOmadrid 2018, the Future; a future based on sustainability, the environment and taking responsibility for one’s actions.
