Collective Exhibition of Cuban Painters Opens in Madrid

Fine arts and music were intertwined to open in Madrid a collective exhibition of Cuban painters, enlivened by a concert of renowned musicians from the island.

Sponsored by the Cuban Embassy in Spain, the exhibition, which is on show at the Nicolas Salmeron Cultural Centre, consists of paintings, engravings and photographs by Cuban artists.

With innumerable successful exhibitions in this European country as well as in Cuba, the public can appreciate snapshots of Jorge Luis Alvarez, Felipe Rouco and Raul Perdomo, as well as the paintings by Patricia Martinez Anglada, Santamarina, Macareño, Adrian Socorro, Frank Govin and Osley Gil and prints by Yovany Enriquez.

At the presentation, the cultural advisor of the diplomatic mission of Havana in Madrid, Natasha Diaz-Arguelles, invited the spectators to share and enjoy two artistic manifestations deeply rooted in their nation: music and fine arts.

She thanked the Councilor and third Deputy Mayor of Madrid City Council, Mauricio Valiente, for attending the opening ceremony, as well as the director of the Nicolas Salmeron Cultural Centre, Estrella Merino, for hosting this exhibition.

She emphasized this exhibition is part of the celebrations of the well-known Madrid district of Chamartin, this year dedicated to the Caribbean nation, and in honor of the Cuban National Culture Day, which is celebrated every October 20.

The soiree, which was attended by Cuban ambassador to Spain, Gustavo Machin, had a luxurious closing with Cuban pianist Ivan 'Melon' Lewis - several times nominated for Latin Grammy Awards - who was accompanied by other excellent Cuban musicians.
