Carlos Acosta returns to the news

The famous dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta has just been proclaimed the new director of the important Birmingham Royal Ballet company (BRB), in the United Kingdom, according to a note released by the company, in which he emphasizes that the world-renowned artist will officially start in January 2020.

This way he will relieve David Bintley, who will continue leading the English group until the current season of ballet ends. In reacting to this proposal, the director of the Cuban company Acosta Danza pointed out that it is a great honor and a privilege that have been granted to him. "I've always been an admirer of the company's heritage and what Bintley has left there to establish it as one of the most important ballet collectives in that country," he said.

This designation will not prevent him at all from continuing to lead the company Acosta Danza, founded three years ago in Cuba, because, as he has always pointed out in every interview his heart has always been on this Island "and I think our people consists, "he said. The group since its inception has been strong on the stage imbued by the talent and strength of its director, the renowned dancer Carlos Acosta, inspiration of the group. When a leader like him, in matters of movement, inspired a group, injects him with that extra, talent, virtue ..., its members, in excellent shape many of them, permeate with that magic.

The Birmingham Royal Ballet is an important company that has managed to excel in a space where other important groups such as the English Ballet and the Royal Ballet move. Precisely in this last one, Carlos Acosta was first dancer with an outstanding work in the English stages, where he was distinguished with the title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire, in addition to the laurel Olivier of the performing arts.

A few days ago, the outstanding dancer nominated for the Goya Award, awarded by the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences of Spain, as Best New Actor for his participation in the film "Yuli", by the Catalan filmmaker Icíar Bollaín. The film was distinguished in four other categories: Adapted screenplay (Paul Laverty), Direction of photography (Álex Catalán), Original music (Alberto Iglesias) and Sound (Eva Valiño, Pelayo Gutiérrez and Alberto Ovejero). "Yuli" is inspired by “Sin mirar atrás” ("No Way Home"), the novel biography of Acosta, and tells the story of a mulatto and poor child who, against all odds and even against his own will at the beginning, becomes one of the greatest dancers in the world. The award ceremony for the Goya Awards is scheduled for February 2, 2019.

And Acosta Danza will return to the scene of the García Lorca Hall of the Gran Teatro de La Habana, on February 15, 16 and 17, with the program entitled Rituals, to continue "watering" the stage through that combination where he multiplies the dance with attractive doses of mysticism, music, color, bodies, broken times, sounds, symbols, light, movement, tension, shadows ..., that emerge from their proposals, some of them of high caliber, that always illuminate the spaces.
