Represents Flora Fong to Cuba at BIAB 2019

Just when 30 years of the first visit to the country of her ancestors, the Cuban Flora Fong is again in China, participating in the VIII Beijing Art Biennial, BIAB, for its acronym in English; opened last Friday, August 30.

Hers is one of the 640 works of 113 nations from all continents that are exhibited in the National Museum of Art of the Asian giant until September 23, date scheduled for the closing of the event that takes place under the motto A world multicolored and a shared future.

Attached to this concept and after deep study, the artist based her piece on the meaning that the ancient Chinese calligraphy has the ideogram Shu, in relation to achieving the same goal through different channels. Men and women in movement, together with different means of transport, make up the scene that, symbolically, represents the cultural exchange between peoples.

This is the fourth visit Flora Fong makes to her father's country. Last June she made, along with her son Li Dominguez, an exhibition at the Museum of the Beijing City Library, in which she showed twenty of the pieces of the Ming Caribbean series: Image, Calligraphy, Verse.

Graduated from the National School of Art in 1970, this creator, born in Camagüey from a Cuban mother, is one of the most outstanding in contemporary Cuban art. In addition to painting, in which her chromatic variety, lyricism and recreation of Chinese ideograms have been praised, she has also excelled in sculpture, ceramics, tissue design and pedagogy.

Flora Fong attends BIAB together with other Latin American artists from Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. Her participation in it happily coincides, also, with the 70th anniversary of her birth and the foundation of the People's Republic of China.

With a first edition in 2003, attended by 45 countries, the Beijing Art Biennial has been consolidated as a prestigious event, in which the art of the West and the East is connected. To the interest to show more and more the diversity and cultural wealth of the planet, responds the increasing number of guests to it.
