Gerhard Richter: Landschaft (Landscape)

The German artist Gerhard Richter (born in 1932 in Dresden, lives and works in Cologne), is considered one of the most important painters currently living in the world.

A source of new pictorial inventions in his work for almost 60 years, no other genre has aroused Richter's interest as much as landscape.

Organized in five thematic sections, this retrospective exhibition is the largest presentation ever devoted exclusively to the landscapes Richter created since 1963.

Gerhard Richter: Landschaft (Landscape) presents a selection of more than 130 paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, artist's books and objects on loan from some 50 international institutions. The exhibition particularly highlights the importance of landscape to Richter, and some of the works on display at the Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien have never before been shown to the public.

'If the "abstract pictures" show my reality, then the landscapes or still life motifs show my longing.' Gerhard Richter (1981)
