Latin American Contemporary Art in Shanghai

Art Shanghai, one of the main and most prestigious events in that Chinese city, will once again this year be home to the Latin American Pavilion (LAP) from April 13 to 17, 2011 at the Shanghai Mart.

LAP is an indispensable benchmark for Asian artistic circles that gather galleries specialized in Latin American art from different countries across Europe, North America, Asia and Latin America.

In addition to those spaces reserved for international galleries, for a second straight year LAP will present a Contemporary Art Section commissioned by celebrated art critic Milagros Bello. From today’s Latin American art, works by Ignacio Iturria (Montevideo, 1949); Pedro Morales (Maracaibo, 1958), and Roberto Diago (Havana, 1971), among others, have been handpicked.

Art Shanghai has featured highlights for national and foreign collectors since its first edition back in 2003. To date, as many as 700 artistic institutions have attended this fair and some 150,000 visitors have walked past the turnstiles with over 150 million yuans worth of sales in a total surface of more than 86,000 square feet.
